Luke Humphreys- President, Central West Rugby Union

Ladies and Gentlemen, as President of the Central West Rugby Union, it is my honour to welcome you to the Young Rugby Club who are hosting the Southwest Grand Finals. Today marks the culmination of an incredible season filled with fierce competition, outstanding sportsmanship, and the true spirit of rugby.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all our volunteers, whose tireless efforts behind the scenes have made this season possible. Your dedication and hard work are the backbone of the rugby community, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

To our players, your commitment, passion, and skill have brought us to this exciting finale. You’ve given your all, week in and week out, and your efforts have been nothing short of inspiring.

To our sponsors South West Fuels & Westfund, thank you for your support of these competitions and the union. Without this fantastic sponsorship we are unable to provide the services to our clubs that we do.

As we gather here to witness these thrilling matches between Temora and Grenfell and then Boorowa and Young, I wish all teams the very best of luck. May the games reflect your hard work and dedication. Make sure you leave everything on the field. However more importantly enjoy each other’s company and share a well-earned beer afterwards.

Thank you all for being a part of this wonderful day and let’s enjoy some fantastic rugby.

Warm regards,

Luke Humphreys

President

Central West Rugby Union

Nathan Pearce – President, Central West Rugby Union Referees Association

To the Central West Rugby Community,

On behalf of the Central West Rugby Union Referees Association, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Boorowa and Young for making it to the South West Fuels Cup Grand Final and Temora and Grenfell for making it to the Westfund South Grand Final as well. Your dedication and hard work have brought you to this pinnacle moment, and we are all looking forward to two great grand finals.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated volunteers, club presidents, and everyone who has contributed to supporting the referees throughout the year.

Your efforts in making them welcome and included at your club are vital to ensuring they remain linked to the game. Also, a further thank you to all clubs in the Southwest competitions for the smooth running of our matches and the overall success of the season. Well done.

Most importantly, I want to express my deepest gratitude to our referees. Your commitment to upholding the integrity of the game and ensuring fair play is invaluable. Without your hard work and dedication, none of this would be possible.

Thank you all for a fantastic season, and best of luck to Boorowa and Young in the Grand Final.

Nathan Pearce

President,

Central West Rugby Referees Association

Bill McCrone – President – Temora RUFC

Well done to Central West and the other seven clubs on another successful South West season. It’s always good to see such a high quality of country rugby being played across our region.

Congratulations to Young, Boorowa and Grenfell who have made it through to their respective deciders today. Thanks to all the clubs that have played in the women’s Westfund South Cup and made it such a competitive and fun competition to be involved in. It’s great that so many clubs have really pushed the women’s game, and we are getting more rugby for the women every season.

A big thankyou to all of Temora’s sponsors and supporters that have followed our sides around this year. It wouldn’t be possible or anywhere near the same without you.

And well done to our Tuskerettes.

We’ve had a solid group of players all year who have been a model of consistency and played some great footy. You thoroughly deserve your shot at glory today and here’s hoping you can bring the Westfund South Cup back to Temora.

Jason Stuart – President – Boorowa RUFC

It’s been a great year for the Boorowa Rugby Club on and off the field – culminating with a spot in the Grand Final for the Goldies for the first time since 2010. While the squad of players are the ones that we all come to watch and enjoy the success of, we all know our club is so much more than the playing group. From our canteen volunteers to the committee, coaches, managers, game day volunteers, bus drivers, bbq cooks, sponsors, members, Mums, Dads, Grandparents, Sons, Daughters and the wider Boorowa community – you are all part of our club and we thank-you for your support.

I would like to wish all clubs involved in today’s Grand Final all the best and congratulate you on a fantastic season. Another great year for Central West Rugby – and whatever happens in today’s Grand Final, we’ll be looking forward to the 2025 season just the same.

Go the Goldies!

Nick Duffy – President- Young RUFC

What a cracking year of Rugby it has been, many highs and lows and now the big dance at home! If you had asked me if we were to be in this position mid-year I would have said probably not. Back-to-back home Grand Finals is no easy feat and is certainly a big achievement and one that should not be taken lightly, I am so proud of our club both men and women’s teams and our ripping Yabbie Community.

Being my first year at the helm I have had lots to learn especially with a mostly new committee. We have such a cracking comp, and it is a pleasure to be involved in a comp which is incredibly well run and boats some great little rugby clubs. A massive thanks must go to our committee for putting in the hard yards each week and all coming together to host the GF, our very valued sponsors, the Yabs community and the wider Young community thank you for all the support throughout the year.

I feel like this year we have gone from strength to strength and have a lot to take away from moving forward to next year. I would also like to make special mention to CWRU, they run bloody great rugby comps, and nothing is ever an issue. A special mention to Jarrod Simpson ‘Choppy’ he has been a very big helper to me this year finding my feet and is only ever a phone call away, so thank you very much Choppy!

Finally, to all clubs playing in the GF today, lap it up, enjoy the experience you have all worked incredibly hard to be here today and it is a credit to your clubs but also each and every player. Remember that when the final whistle blows that’s it, the season is done so make sure you leave nothing in the tank.

To the Yabbie Men – incredible feat to be in our third straight grand final and second at home! Rip in, play your hearts out and enjoy the 80 minutes – you never know, it might not happen again for our great club!
